Finally on our way home...

Lillian was so anxious that she stared out the window the whole way.

We had a slightly more trying trip on the way back since the baby didn't really sleep and I had my first experience changing a huge poopy diaper in the rest room during turbulance. I wish I had one of those contraptions where you put your arms in 2 sleeves and the toxic object is contained within 3 inches of glass, like Homer Simpson at the nuclear power plant.

It was good to be home and use logical measures like pounds and MPH again.

We had a blast and can't wait to go again!

Almost home Lillian!

They seem interested....

The second day was much as the first, a bit of work a bit of fun.

Scott missed his train getting back from the boonies of London and Jack had to go on in his place. He put Scott's presentation to shame see the video below.

Jackie B presents his buns off!
Italian, Scottish, and proper Brit battle of the accents.

Finally to work!

After our adventures getting back to London and a strange probably microwaved meal at the hotel, I was up early to set up for the show.

The graphics I sent over miraculously fit and I think it all turned out pretty well. The show was a bit slow, but the people are so polite that if you engage them, they will talk forever. Sometimes not a good thing.

20 or so people pre-registered to see our presentation and about 8 showed up :( but it went well anyway and was a good time all around.

Our local sales reps showed up in force and it was really nice to spend some time with them. I managed to stay fueled up with cadburys.
Scott and I went to Greenwich for dinner; a short-ish train ride away where we had thai food and then hiked up to the original Greenwich Observatory, home of GMT.

Graffitti near the University of Edinburgh.

We got up and headed out to squeeze in as much of the Museum Of Scotland and the Royal Museam that we could before 12 PM checkout.

Saw this cool graffitti after getting lost and ending up at the University of Edinburgh, but no problem, since we found 2 cool little art galleries there.

We eventually found the museums but didn't even make it through the first floor before we had to go check out and head to the airport. We arrived a bit late and after another horifically expensive cab ride were dropped off at the wrong hotel and had to take the DLR (Docklands Light Rail) about 15 minutes to our actual hotel. Not too fancy, but at least there's free TV and high speed wireless.

We're in the Docklands, which is like some kind of redeveloped area with new high rises and offices and such. We were too tired to explore. i have to start actual work tomorrow so off to bed.

Lillian got a bath.

A little bath for a little lady.

After the Castle... we trudged... and trudged.

After the castle, we walked down to Grassmarket St. and found a cheese shop where we purchased a tasty Scottish farm cheese, a spicy sausage, and a loaf of fresh bread. We went off to the park and had a nice, though a bit nippy and blustery, picnic.

We ended up at the Museum of Scotland, but ran out of time (they close at 5) and went back to our room to re-group.

After a bit of rest I fired up a stogie (Uppman #2) and we strolled to the bottom of the hill and found a pedestrian walkway called Rose St. It was lined with pubs (huge suprise) and restaurants, and betting parlors. We didn't see anything that looked good except in the Sainsbury Market where we looked for baby food. I could not convince Connie that we should start Lillian off on baked bean with bacon, so we left.

While searching for a cab to take up back to our part of town, we heard Scottish music and found a whole pack of Scottish country dancers in a beautiful park across the street. it was wonderful. It's there I took this great picture of Lillian with the castle in the background.

We are back to the Museum first thing Tuesday morning then back to London in the afternoon.

There is too much history in this bloody castle to make much sense of it here, but suffice it to say that I am in awe at the spirit of my ancestors as they defended this spot and this country.

There were some really cool dungeons, museums, exhibits of Scottish crown jewels and such, check out the pics.

Edinburgh here we come...

We arrived early Sunday morning after the worlds most expensive and slowest cab ride ever out to Gatewick. 95 pounds and we barely made the flight! Quick bus ride into the city and few blocks of dragging our suitcases over the cobblestones and we were safely home to the Edinburgh Travelodge. No room available yet, so we had a proper scottish breakfast (love them baked beans, see "WindSettlers" note above) and headed off to a lovely Episcopal church service in a 900 yr. old santuary. It was really nice. Communion was a bit unsettling as we all had to drink from the same cup. Luckily, due to my heritage, I feel immune to Scottish herpes.

After that a bit of rest in the room , then off to see some sights. We visited a really cool old church and graveyard, walked in a wonderful park and generally putzed around till dinner. Ate at a wonderful place called Monster Mash, which was a slightly hip, though thouroughly tradition purveyor of scottish food. I had sausage and mash with a nob of butter and brown gravy, Connie had steak pie, we split steamed puddiing for desert with syrup and cream....mmmmmmmm yummy!

We went to bed about 9 (both exhausted from 3:30 AM wake-up for our flight, but then were up at 2, watched a movie then back to bed till 9 AM - - this traveling has really messed our sleep patterns up.

I will update today (Monday now) in a bit... ta ta!

Adorable little Scottish houses.

Our room on St. Mary Street; neat view.

Back to the "Tower of London" area for the Ripper walking tour. It was well worth putting another few hours load on our excruciatingly tired feet.

We learned all about the ripper (or confirmed what I thought I knew from watching Michael Caine and Johnny Depp in the movies. The area started out a bit modern and re-developed, but soon gave way to the antique buildings of the 1800's where Jack watched, stalked and butchered 5 raddled, drink-sodden East End prostitues.

We walked around a bit after in the area of Brick lane which has more Indian restaurants than SF has Starbucks, then back towards our hotel for a late snack of McDonalds. I had the Bigger Big Mac. Delicious!

NEWS FLASH - Kook tries to get the Queen!

Well we got up kinda late and saw that there was some British Welsh Guard kind of parading and marching for the Queen going on while we were eating breakfast.

We wandered down there (it turned out to be near the hotel) and it turned out to be the "Trooping of the Colours", a ceremony that marked the Queens B-day (her 80th) and is both a serious military operation and a symbol of Britishism around the world.

It was really cool, we saw the troops marching, the horses and band and finally carriages filled with royals, climaxing with the Queen Mum herself not 20-30 feet from us. I thought Connie was going to faint. It was pretty exciting. Aslo right as the Queen got near us, a guy in a weird flag cape and UK shorts leaped over the barricade and got within 10 feet of her before being dragged off... kinda wild! It's all on the video.

After that we wandered off to Westminster Abby, Parliment, and Big Ben. What amazing architecure. I cannot even compare it to anything I have ever seen.

We are now back in our room getting ready to go to the "Jack the Ripper" walk.

The guards get an inspection.

We took a double decker bus out to the Tower and Bridge. It was really awesome. Hard to believe that there's been a castle here in one form or the othe since Roman times.

The Tower bridge was impressive overall as well, though Lillian started to get a bit squirmy by then.

We tubed and bussed off to finish the day at Harrods (they have Krispy Kreme now!) and a relaxing cigar at Hyde Park.

Lovely!

In the interest of saving space on this page I am now going to link to the videos instead of embedding them. They will open in a new window @ YouTube.com. You can choose to close that window when finished and come back to this blog or view all the videos there.

From Piccadilly to SoHo...

SANY0006

We went out and about tonight hitting the town. The streets were crowded with proper Brits in the grip of World Cup fever.

Everyone seemed happy (and hammered) as England pounded Trinida and Tobago 2-nil, to move on to the next round.

We wandered the streets of SoHo... it was amazing. So many shops, restaurants and people. Finished up with some tapas and turkish delight.

No video this time, my SD card got corrupt so I lost a few :(

Horrific theatre poster.

Apparently, what passes for Jack Nicholson over here is....... CHRISTIAN SLATER. Holy smokes, this has got to be a train wreck.

We are deep in country now and took in some of the sights near our hotel and walked over by St. James Park and Buckingham Palace.

We just finished a quick nap and we're off at around 7:00 PM UK time baby!

Baby's first tube ride; Lillian was there too!

Virgin Atlantic Sky-cot!

Connie slept a bit, I didn't at all; never can on planes. I ended up watching "Luck Number Sleven", "Smartest Guys in the Room", and "Firewall" (yuuucchhh!) plus 2 eps. of the "Katherine Tate Show", sketch comedy from the UK that was pretty funny.

Anyhoo, I'll keep posting as I have time...

Lillian is a great little traveler!

Well, we're off. Connie and I are really looking forward to this trip. I think Lillian is too. She just increased her drool output.

Keep you eye on this space for updated videos and pix of our journeys.

A little video Ta-Ta!
